This piece was the third in a long, planned series of solitary white pine trees. White pines are iconic trees in Minnesota, especially along the North Shore in the Superior National Forest and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW).
White pines are native to Minnesota. Mature white pines are typically 40 to 70 feet tall and up to 42 inches in diameter. If left undisturbed, they can typically live 200 years. They are an unmistakable part of the North Shore landscape. For me, the white pine’s majestic upward-extending, irregular-shaped branches growing in a whorled arrangement around the trunk convey serenity and peace.
