Inspired by deep cobalt blue skies during nautical twilight on a calm evening overlooking Grand Marais Harbor on the North Shore of Lake Superior on February 2, 2024. The pink band across the eastern horizon, known as the Belt of Venus, is caused by red light projected into the sky opposite the setting sun.

Many blended layers and tints comprise the sky’s rich blue jewel tones, the dark navy horizon, the purple and navy harbor water, and the fading horizon pastels. Bright green and yellow hues were mixed to create the breakwater light’s mesmerizing green flash and its reflection in the harbor waters.
