Needle felting using natural wool fibers

Inspired by a late fall sunset on Seagull Lake on the Gunflint Trail, where the sky was a captivating blue, with azure, cyan, navy, and teal against the clouds and soft sunset pastels. The calm evening created a crisp, magical lake reflection. Just enough sun reached the shore from the opposite horizon to cast a glow on the trunks of the leafless autumn trees.

Changes in light and the resulting reflections and transitions in color we see in nature are minuscule. I used hand-blending techniques with merino fiber to create dozens of sky and lake color gradations, which I applied in delicate layers.
