Inspired by an early winter snow blanketing a stand of red pines planted after the 2007 Ham Lake fire near the end of the Gunflint Trail. The reference photo was taken with a wide lens, creating the leaning-in effect that draws you into the woods.
Wandering in snow-filled woods is my favorite outdoor winter activity. After a fresh snowfall, pine trees in the Northwoods seem to embrace the space around them, creating a calm shelter where we can quiet our minds and set aside our toils and worries. They beckon you to freely enter, be among them, and enjoy their steadfast beauty.
