Needle felting using natural wool fibers

Inspired by periwinkle skies at sunset on a calm evening overlooking Grand Marais Harbor on the North Shore of Lake Superior on February 2, 2024. I drove into town just as the sun slipped past the horizon. The blue-purple skies against the pastel horizon were stunning. Within minutes, I was on the harbor shore, capturing the scene. The sky turned a deep cobalt blue forty minutes later, as seen in my companion piece, ‘Not Long After.’

Over a dozen blues and purples were blended to create the sky and water. White wool curly locks with purple and blue tints represent the ice formed from water lapping onto the rocky shoreline.
