This piece is inspired by this photo taken just after sunset on Sea Gull Lake near the end of the Gunflint Trail in Northeastern Minnesota. “Blue hour” is the period of time just before sunrise or just after sunset when the sun casts a diffuse light from below the horizon and the sky takes on a vivid blue tone.
The piece began by wet felting the main background colors, then needle felting the detail on top. The felt was mounted on a canvas painted with black acrylic paint.
